BIP39 Seed Phrases

Updated: 2026-05-25

How to securely backup and manage your mnemonic seeds.

A BIP39 seed phrase is a human-readable representation of your private key, typically 12 or 24 words.

Best Practices:

  1. Write it down on paper: Never store it digitally on an internet-connected device.
  2. Use metal backups: Paper can burn or get wet; consider stamping the seed into a metal plate for durability.
  3. Keep it physical: Never take a photo of your seed phrase.
